The images on this page were taken through a meade LX90 using a bog
standard webcam. An AVI movie was shot - and the resultant frames
stacked to help reduce noise.
The Sun
This is a first light for my new Coronado PST.
I managed to capture a few AVI's through gaps in the clouds and
processed them into this image. The prominences were
captures at 1/250 sec and the surface detail at 1/1000 sec.
The resulting AVI's were stacked using registax and
processed/layered using photoshop elements.
Coronado PST + toucam pro2. IR blocking filter and 2x
barlow.
Processed above to bring out more detail.
Same setup as above - A series of 1/250 sec
exposures (gain at 50%) stacked in registax and processed in
photoshop. Captured on 19th March 2008
As above but deconvoluted to try and bring out more
detail. Each image in the mosaic had 50 iterations of
maximum entropy deconvolution applied with a PSF of 2.0 in Stellar
magic Freeware. I also performed a linear histo stretch on
each.
Jupiter
Stacked image of Jupiter. Notice the dark spot
to the bottom right. That is the shadow of one of Jupiter's
moons eclipsing Jupiter.
A raw frame from the AVI movie that was used to
create the above image - notice the lack of detail and
considerable noise.
Another shot of Jupiter - captures in the same way
as above but taken on a different day and at a different
magnification
Saturn
Stacked image of Saturn (~150 of 300 1/100 sec
frames)
Processed using Registax and Photoshop Elements.
Moon
A panorama created by stitching multiple
stacked frames together.
1999 Solar Eclipse
This shot was taken just before totality.
There was fairly heavy patchy cloud that day (Austrian/German
border) - and so we jumped in the car and chased the gaps.
After catching a gap in the clouds - we jumped out
of the car and set the telescope up with about 1 minute to
spare. This shot was taken using a compact digital camera in
the middle of totality. Some details can be seen in the
corona.
2007 Perseids
A single Perseid captured on 13th Aug 2007.
This shot shows the constellation of Cassiopeia and a hint of M31
can also bee seen
Comet 17P/Holmes
Taken on 29th Oct 2007 - this shows the flare up of
Comet 17P/Holmes. This is a median stack of 13 x 2sec
iso1600 unguided using a Canon EOS300D attached to a 10"
Meade LX90 fitted with an F6.3 focal reducer and a 12.5mm
eyepiece. Stacked in DeepSkyStacker 2.6.1, touched up in
Photoshop elements and RL deconvolution using Iris 5.41.
As above but simply stacked in Registax 4 and
adjusted in photoshop elements. No dark subtraction and no
deconvolution.
